The brief
PUBG Mobile Global Championship is a major mobile battle royale esports tournament. The 2020 Finals were hosted live at Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai and streamed worldwide from 21 to 24 January 2021. Sixteen four-player teams competed for the event’s attractive prize pool.
Pico was entrusted by VSPN, a leading Shanghai-based esports experience provider, to deliver the event.
Solution
Owing to the unpredictable COVID-19 situation of many countries, representatives of the client, VSPN, were unable to be present in Dubai. This made Pico’s role in ensuring a smooth, trouble-free event even more critical.
Leveraging on the Group’s global network, the Dubai team led on-site management, logistics and operations, while the Shanghai team supported the client at a remote broadcasting studio. Pico further acted as the client’s liaison with local entities such as the Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing and Dubai Health Authority, as well as various service providers and venue management.
The comprehensive service continued with management of teams and players’ equipment and logistics, the latter including transportation, F&B, accommodation, chaperone supervision and management. The team also supervised and enabled the on-ground networking agency, production management of event videos and photos.
Importantly, the team was responsible for implementing the rigorous health measures requested by the client before and during the tournament. This included arrangements for PCR tests, isolation and quarantine, and preparation of PPE kits.
Result
The livestream reached a peak of 3.8 million concurrent viewers.
